Fastest Transcription Services in 2026: Speed Comparison
FastTranscriber's goal is to be the fastest transcription service. We timed 5 popular services on the same file to prove it 😈
How we tested
We used a 9:47 YouTube video (Matthew McConaughey's "10 Minutes for the Next 10 Years" speech) as an MP4 file (17.3 MB). Every service received the same file on the same internet connection using free tiers only. We timed from the moment we clicked transcribe (after upload) to when the full transcript appeared.
The results
| Service | Time |
|---|---|
| FastTranscriber | 5.16s |
| Riverside | 22.1s |
| TurboScribe (Cheetah) | 24.65s |
| TurboScribe (Dolphin) | 29.21s |
| Happy Scribe | 41.35s |
| Otter.ai | 1m 16.9s |
FastTranscriber — 5.16 seconds. The transcript appeared almost before we could glance at the stopwatch.
Riverside — 22.1 seconds. Solid speed for a platform primarily built for podcast recording.
TurboScribe (Cheetah) — 24.65 seconds. Their fastest mode came in just behind Riverside.
TurboScribe (Dolphin) — 29.21 seconds. Their balanced mode, about 5 seconds slower than Cheetah.
Happy Scribe — 41.35 seconds. Reliable, but noticeably slower than the leaders.
Otter.ai — 1 minute 16.9 seconds. The most well-known name in transcription, but the slowest in our test.
How much faster is FastTranscriber?
- 4x faster than Riverside (next closest)
- 5x faster than TurboScribe's fastest mode
- 15x faster than Otter.ai
Conclusion
FastTranscriber is the fastest transcription service we tested — and it's not close. At 5 seconds for a 10-minute file, it finishes before most services even start processing. Speed isn't everything though — accuracy matters just as much. We'll be publishing a side-by-side accuracy comparison of these same services next.
